Introduction
In November of 2005 Space Imaging, Inc released an image of Black Rock City 2005. Their Ikonos satellite acquired the image at a resolution between 1 and 4 meters. As I scrolled through the image I relaized that I could locate my tent, a 2 meter by 2 meter square. Later in the day, while chatting with a friend, I commented that I wished the resolution was better so that I could see what was on the ground. This led to a discussion of perhaps writing something on top of the bus that was in our camp. Eventually I realized that we needed to do this on a larger scale, maybe arranging the tents in camp to make a symbol or spell something out. This led to the idea of creating a piece of art that would only be visible from the satellite that took this picture.
Concept
Create a large scale artwork which can only be entirely visualized from a great distance. This artwork would be 100 meters long by 100 meters wide and would consist of 10,000 square of colored material arranged to produce an image 100 pixels by 100 pixels. The images used below are only representative and are not going to be used at the event.
We want to create a very large image on the floor of the desert that will be photographed by a satellite.
It'll need the participation of all of you.
Signup on the web site and tell us how many pixels you can bring.
Please visit sputnik.name for more information.
For this project a pixel is a piece of fabric 44 inches square
You bring your part of the image out to the project location and help fasten it into place.

Re: Be a part of the MegaPixel project!
Wed, April 26, 2006 - 1:16 PMThis is my friend Sputnik's idea....all "I"'s refer to him........not me.
You can also e-mail him (he's part of my friends list) if you have any other questions or concerns. If you're going out to the playa this year this might be another really great way for you to participate.
I'll be doing this and the 2 mile dragon......This is the year of fabric for me...or so it would seam.
